Installation

Installation methods

With a wide range of thicknesses, PIR boards enable you to achieve premium efficiency with a thinner wall/roof/floor depth.

Storage and Handling

PIR should be stored dry, flat, and clear of the ground. Be careful to ensure that packs are not dropped on to their corners or edges.

Aluminium foil edges may be sharp. Avoid sliding bare hands along board edges.

Use Reticel Eurothane Insulation tape to seal the joins where PIR boards abut. This prevents air leakage, completes the vapour control layer and maximises thermal performance.

Insulation Methods

Over/outside the framework

PIR is designed to be used over the framework to create a complete unbroken thermal ‘envelope’.

Traditionally in NZ, insulation has been stuffed in the gaps between timber studs or rafters. This approach does not address the fact that timber is a poor insulator, therefore everywhere you have a stud or rafter you have a thermal break in the building envelope.

The answer is to wrap the building with Eurothane GP and tape the joints. This results in no thermal leakage. The method of fixing, and the thickness of insulation used to wrap the building, will vary according to the type of cladding or roofing used.

Between the framework

PIR is versatile. It can also be cut, and press fitted between the framework (rafters, studs, floor joists) in the traditional way. Using PIR in this method will achieve a superior overall insulation result because of its superior R value.

Between AND over the framework

PIR can be used both between the framework AND over it to make a two layer build up and achieve optimum insulation. The thickness of the PIR used between the studs can be thinner than the studs to allow for services.
